Panama - Finca Hartmann - Marago Natural

RM30.00 MYR

"Upon grounding, the dry aroma exudes berries, peach, and caramel. On the palate, strawberry, mango, and candied pineapple dominate, with peach adding a soft undertone. The finish reveals toffee and hazelnut, leaving a subtle and balanced aftertaste."

Finca Hartmann, a family-operated coffee estate founded in 1940 by Ratibor Hartmann Troetsch, is one of Panama's most renowned specialty coffee producers. The Hartmann family has a rich history tied to the preservation of nature, a philosophy that is deeply embedded in the operation of the farm. Their commitment to sustainable farming and minimizing environmental impact stems from Ratibor and his brother’s work as guides for ornithologist Alexander Wetmore, inspiring a lasting respect for the land.

The farm is located between 1,300 and 2,000 meters above sea level, with over 100 hectares of native forest reserves bordering Panama's Parque Nacional de La Amistad. The Hartmann family carefully preserves the ecosystem by replanting native trees and maintaining the natural cycle of the forest, which supports long-term quality coffee production.

One of their notable varieties, Maragogype, is grown under the shade of these rainforests. This exotic coffee has a complex flavor profile that is enhanced by meticulous processing. The Hartmanns use a natural drying process where cherries are laid out on African raised beds after being hand-picked at their ripest stage. To maintain the integrity of the beans, they ensure no water touches the cherries during drying. After drying for up to 17 days, they are transferred to mechanical driers, where the beans are slowly dried to a precise moisture content of 11-11.5%. This slow, careful drying preserves the beans' complex sugars, contributing to the coffee's unique flavor.

Finca Hartmann is a pioneer in Panama’s specialty coffee industry, with a longstanding tradition of producing some of the country’s finest coffees while maintaining sustainable and eco-friendly practices. The family's legacy, combined with their innovative approaches to coffee processing, has made their estate a treasure in the world of specialty coffee.
