"Upon grounding, it exudes scents of lemon peel, white flowers, bergamot, and notes of black tea. Upon tasting, you'll experience hints of honey and lemon peel flavors, accompanied by subtle jasmine and bergamot aromas, all creating a fragrant, sweet, and clean sensation."
MamaCata Farm had a long history. It used to belong to the Monic family, who also owned other farms like Finca Lerida, Elida, and MamaCata. Later on, the Fisher family took over. They're the ones who brought Geisha coffee to MamaCata. But the main focus of the farm has always been the Typica variety.
MamaCata's Typica coffee did really well in Best of Panama. In 2016, it got fourth place, a testament to its excellence.
Since 1959, the Garrido Family has owned the farm. In the early 2000s, the owner, Jose Garrido, planted some Geisha coffee, hoping to win a competition. It didn't work out for the big competition, but in 2005, a mix of Geisha and Typica from different parts of the farm won second place. This gave them money to make the farm better.
In 2016, Mama Cata's Geisha coffee got a really high score, the highest in its category. MamaCata Farm is in Alto Quiel, Boquete. It's high up in the mountains, which is great for growing good coffee because of the weather and special soil. In 2020, their Geisha coffee got 16th place in a big competition called Best of Panama.
The special Geisha coffee at MamaCata can be processed in a way called "Lavado." Jose Garrido, the owner, is very picky about how it's done. He makes sure his workers are trained well. Since they want to do well in competitions, they have strict rules for everything from picking the coffee to drying it.
