Indonesia – Pak Zainal Ariffin - Totoruyet #COE 2021, National Winner

This lot is a COE 2021 National winner lot from a single farmer that located out of Takengon Hills. The farmer, Pak Zainal Ariffin is a farmer that continues its family legacy and he is the third generation farmer of his farm which is known as Totoruyet.
The farm has been around since 1940s located in a small Kampung called Uluwenih in Bebesan, Central Aceh. The farm was founded by its grandfather in the 40s and after 60 years of existence the farm was replanted with new tree’s of new variety mainly Ateng and Sigararutang by his father.
The farm is very small in size with a total of 2 hectares in size and located at an altitude of 1550 masl. Pak Zainal has been working at the farm since his early age assisting his father in maintaining the small farm. To insure the sustenance of the farm, classic nurturing method is use. Cherry Skin and silver skins is used as fertilizers at the farm. The farm is also routinely clear its wild grass around the coffee trees, usually every 2-3 months and the coffee tree is pruned to ensure quality branches are maintained and unqualified stems and branches is removed to ensure optimum harvest.
This coffee is process as an extended natural process where the coffee is dried naturally but slightly longer period of time inside a solar dryer. During the drying stage, a thicker layer of coffee cherries is laid on the elevated raised beds. Upon reaching the targeted moisture level, the dried cherries is hulled and prepped for export. The duration of drying is up to 20 days
