Murang'a Farmers Co-op Union is one of the biggest coop in the Murang'a County. With a base of 100,000 farmer. It was established back in 1960. 90% of the members focus on the plantation of coffee and the remaining are in dairy and horticulture. With and average land size of 2 acres per farmer, they are considered a small holders. In this offering, it came from the Yaigi washing station.
This lot is produced by 7000 small holders, all of them are members of the MFCUs. The average altitude from this lot is planted at an average altitude of 1400 masl. The coffee is process as Full Washed.
Kenyan coffee can be delicate and challenging, prior to purchase, our supplier gave a 7 different type of Kenyan coffee. After 3 series of cupping, we decided to go with this as it was juicy without the usual grapefruit acidity that most high grade Kenyan coffee have.
This coffee is pretty dense. We charge it at a slightly above average than what we used to do. After the first crack, the temperature was racing and was raring to go higher. To ensure that we reach the desired drop temperature, we had to tweak the more often than usual. The development time for this was around 15%, just after the first crack end.
The outcome was pretty amazing especially when the coffee temperature hits around 60C. At first, the acidity was towards blackcurrant and black berry. When the temperature drops, it transform into a sweet and sour cranberry mousse and citrus flavour. This tea like coffee is rich and has good tones of honey. Its silky, rich and rounded.
