Ethiopia - SNAP Hambela Gote Sodu

This is our second coffee from Snap Coffee, Ethiopia. The first coffee was from Gogogu Forest. Snap coffee is also the owner of the tasty coffee producing washing station, the Chelbessa Danche. What we have here is an Esperesso selection coffee that is produced by one of Snap coffee processing station located in Hambella.

Gute Sodu is a washing station that is located in the Guji region of Hambella. The coffee is grown in a dense forest South of the washing station, which is protected by the government allowing the harvest of cherries and but not allowing Human induced cultivation at site. In a way, the variety of the coffee that is planted there are an ancient variety also known as the Dega variety by the locals. In othere words, this coffee is 100% “Forest Coffee”. Ethiopia has a very particular way of working for “forest coffee”. Its coffee that grows in the middle of the forest that is protected by the government. This means, producers must apply for a permit or permission to pick the cherry during harvest which is between November to January. Most of the coffee are picked from Guduba, South West of the Gute Sodu washing station

The processing center is managed by Eyasu Worasa. The hand pick cherries is sent straight to the Gute Sodu processing station on the same day during harvest. All of the cherries is soaked in water to remove the floaters (low density cherries). Cherries with higher density is then sent straight to the raised beds for drying process. The drying process takes up to 10 to 14 days before it is sent to SNAP dry mill in Addis Ababa for dehulling, screen, sorting and packing

Evaluated as espresso, the dry aroma of the coffee ground consist of strawberry, mango and orange peel. At first sip, the main flavour are strawberry, mango, peach an orange juicy. The coffee is bright and juicy with notes of blackberry, bergamot. It has an ending of toffee.
