Ethiopia - Daye Yegara
Daye PLC is a very huge coffee exporter which is based out of Bonsa. Bonsa is located in Sidama a well known coffee producing region in the SNPPR. This coffee company is founded by two brothers Asefa and Mulugeta Dukamo. They have atleast 20 years of experience and that 20 years of experience in coffee farming, processing and exporting. In 2020 COE, one of its plot was ranked as #7. These are the owners of the highly rated Shentawene coffee.
What we have here is the collective of the Ethiopian hierloom variety processed as washed coffee. There are atleast 600 farmers which contributes to this lot. Membership between Daye and the smallholders are based on voluntary basis agreeing a good practice coffee farming which ensure tractability This coffee is processed at the Abore washing station which is owned by Daye PLC.
Upon grounding, the coffee has a distinctive toffee and dark chocolate aroma. At first sip, the coffee has a toffee candy like notes, silky and buttery. In the mid section, its earl grey tea like in the mouthfeel. The coffee is heavy bodied yet it is fruity. Fruit notes iclude hints of apricot, lemon and black berry. To sum up, a the coffee is sweet, juicy and smooth.
*Note. Its different from the usual Floral or high acidity coffee from the usual Ethiopian coffee. There are more body, very subtle acidity and chocolaty. Best brewed with milk.
