Costa Rica - Finca La Union

RM40.00 MYR
Back in 2018, La Union was placed at #3 for its Natural process Villa Sarchi at the Costa Rican COE scoring 90.59 few years back. We are lucky enough to get a hold of these specialty coffee from Costa Rica.

The farm is located at the volcanic land of Conception of San Rafael de Heredia and it has a long history. Currently is being run by the 3rd generation of the Camacho family since it was acquired in 1920s.

In the 1920s by Don Manel Elias Camacho Hernandez, acquired the estate. It was then inherited by his son, Don Elias Camacho. Currently, the farm is ran by Dona Maria Elena together with her son and daughter, Silvia Elena and Fernando Elias. The farm has approximately 18 hectares in size  and has an altitude of 1500 masl, which is perfect altitude to cultivate the Villa Sarchi variety. Initially, it was called La Pulperia by the founding fathers, and then it was changed to Finca La Union by Don Manuel. When it was acquired, only parts of the farm was used to plant coffee and mostly to herd cattle for dairy farming. At first, the main variety of this farm was Caturra and Catuai. About 10 years ago, Dona Maria has converted the farm into a high scoring production of specialty coffee by cultivating the Kenia, Geisha, Milenio and Villa Sarchi varietals.

To maintain quality, foliar analysis and new soil are carried out on an annual basis in order to guarantee the best land preparation for the production of coffee. Finca La Union invested a lot on latest technology available in the market to guarantee an excellent composition of aroma and acidity of the coffee.

This family owns the Beneficio Cerro Alto which owns few other farms in Costa Rica.

The coffee is indeed special, upon grounding the coffee it has a dry fragrance is berry, lavender and mint. When you sip, you can feel the smell of strawberry, blueberry, mango and cantaloupe. With a light lavender aroma, the end is mint chocolate.
