This is our second collection of the Rio Brilhante. About a year ago we brought in as small lot of the anerobic processed Mundo Novo which was good. This coffee is from a farm by the name of Rio Brilhante, located in Coromandel, Cerrado. The farm is owned by Inacio Carlos Urban.

Inacio first arrived in Minas Gerais in 1976 with a dream of producing great coffee via a sustainable and innovative practice. To date, Rio Brilhante has grown to become one of the biggest farms in the region as well among the biggest in the country spanning 2000 hectares in size since he first planted his first tree almost 40 years ago. He has continued to strive for excellence within the specialty industry mainly his use of rigorous quality control methods.

Rio Brilhante means, Bright River, to honour the clear crystal water that proides life to his farm. The lifeblood of his farm originates from Guarani Aquifer, the second largest underwater reservoir on earth, partly located underneath the Cerrado region, stretching as far as Paraguay and Uruguay. Out of his 2000 hectares of coffee, 700 hectares is dedicated for coffee and remaining is combination of cotton, soy, corn, tomato, beans and grazing pasture for cattle.

The varietal in this collection is catuai and processed as natural. Upon grounding, the coffee has a hazelnut and pecan like aroma, at first sip is dark chocolate throughout with a pecans and hazelnut aroma. Very nutty and smooth body.
