

"Upon grouding, it has an aroma of citrus, cranberry, blackberry and floral aroma. At first sip sweet and sour cranberry and ripe pomegranete juice with aroma of orange juice, gooseberry and blackberry with and aftertaste of dried cranberry with roselle fragrant. The coffee has a milder acid value than the usual Kenyan coffee. The coffee is smooth with a soft velvety texture. It has been a while."
This coffee is from the Guama washing station which processes coffee from approximately 1380 farmers from the Baragwi Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS). The Baragwi FCS has approximately 17,000 registered farmers. Kirinyaga district is a very active in the coffee planting due to its has an above average altitude of 1700 to 1800 masl where on average, the altitude for coffee production in Kenya is about 1500-1600 masl.
In Kirinyaga alone, there are at least 12 other washing station. They are, Muchagara, Kagongo, Rwambiti, Karumandi, Kyanja, Kianyaga, Gachami, Kianjiru, Kariru, Githiuriri, Thimu and Guama. In order to maintain quality, the Guama washing station are very selective on the coffee sent to them by the farmers. Approved farmers were allowed to send cherries to the washing station for processing. A pre qualification need to be met prior to deliveries. Farmers that sent cherries to the Guama Washing station on average owns approximately 400 coffee trees.
Upon receiving the ripe cherries, it is then depulped and fermented in fresh water from the Kabayo river and sun dried on raised beds.
