Have you ever tried a cup of Myanmar pour over? If you haven't this is the benchmark for specialty coffee from Myanmar. Shan state region is located in the golden triangle known for the drug trade. Well, things changed over time. Instead of poppies, farmers has found a new crop that is changing their lives. With political effort from USAid, these coffee farmers are producing high quality beans that are graded as specialty coffee.

What we have in store is something special. We like it, because Myanmar coffee is different from the Indonesian beans. It was hard to find too. With the help of the Myanmar SCA's, we found something which is truly different if compared with beans from Laos or even the highlands of Chiang Mai.

The beans came from a farm located in the southern of the Shan State. Only a small amount of the coffee produced from this farm is processed through the natural process. Most of the coffee in Shan State region is normally washed and end up being used over the espresso machines. If it was washed, the taste of the coffee is more chocolaty than the natural process.

The natural process has created the uniqueness of the Shan State beans. This is exactly a coffee gems. Its bright, sweet sparkling and luscious. Its a perfect combination of a fruit-foward Ethiopian beans and a classice and spice tone Sumatra, all in one.

Back in 2017, the cooperatives that produced this coffee won a national cupping competition for its dry natural processed coffees. The score was 89.58 on the SCA scale.

The coffee has a good aroma of sweet and fruit. Taste notes is pretty unique too. Blackberry, Vanilla and Citrus. It has a good body similar to an Ethiopian Guji. If not roasted right, the body of the coffee will overtake the fruitiness of the coffee and turn it to a different taste notes.

Give this coffee a try. You would be surprise! as I was!
