Bolivia Floripondio Natural

Floripondio is located in the new coffee region in Bolivia, Samaipata. Like many other beans that we have been roasting from Bolivia, this coffee farm is also owned by the Rodriguez Family, the owner of Agricafe Bolivia.

With international recognition for quality of coffee produced in Bolivia, the coffee production in Bolivia still remain very small. Farmers see the farming of illicit plants are more lucarative which provide a year long income rather than seasonal like coffee. In 2012, the leaf rust diesease starts to affect a lot of farms in Bolivia. Due to this diesease, the planting of illicit plants grew and the production of coffee dropped for more than half. Prior to owning farms, the Rodriguez Family or Agricafe was depending on small holders. Due to the inclination of coffe production, the Rodriguez family began to invest in small farms and its own plantation. To date, they own 12 farms and around 130 hectares of coffee under the "Fincas Los Rodriguez" as a brand.

Floripondio was established in 2014. It is about 47 hectares in size and 29 hectares is used to plant coffee. It sits at an altitude of 1710 kasl with a daily temperature of betwee 5 celcius to 30 celcius. With such altitude and temperature, coffee cherries mature slowly which encourage the increase concentration of sugars.

This coffee is processed as natural process. The coffee is handpicked every day during harvest and only the ripest cherries is selected. The cofffee is then processed on the same day at the wet mill at one of their nearby farm, El Fuerte. The cherry is then weight using water and all the floaters will be removed. The coffee is then dried slowly in a stationary drier with temperatures no higher than 40 degrees C. When it cherries reached 16% humidity, it is then rested in a silo and then sundried until it reached the humidity of 11.5%.  Once dried, it is then transported to the capital, La Paz and milled at Agricafe's dry mill and sorted manually.

As a result, the dry aroma is strawberry, peach, mango, raisin and almond aroma. Sip it to feel strawberry, cranberry, peach. One could taste the notes of guava and mango, with the aroma of cookies and almond at the end.
